Short version: this site sets no cookies, counts visits without identifying you, and only keeps your email if you sign up for the newsletter and confirm it.

Hosting
The site is served by Cloudflare, Inc. To deliver pages and protect the site from abuse, Cloudflare processes your IP address and standard request data (browser, page requested, time). We use your country, which Cloudflare derives from the IP address, only to point Amazon links to the right Amazon store. It isn't stored. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Cloudflare is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Analytics
We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies, doesn't track you across sites and doesn't build profiles. It records page views with technical data such as the page, the referring site, the browser type and the country.
We also count a few clicks ourselves: Amazon buttons, newsletter sign-ups and quote shares or downloads. For each, we store the time, the button and page, the book and Amazon store, the site that linked to the page (or its campaign tag) and your country. We don't store your IP address, set cookies or store anything on your device for this, and we can't tell who you are. The data stays on Cloudflare and is used only to see which books and pages are useful. Legal basis for both: our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Newsletter
If you sign up, we store your email address, the book you signed up from (if any), and the time and IP address of your sign-up and confirmation, which is how we prove consent. The newsletter is sent with MailerLite (UAB MailerLite, Lithuania, EU), which processes this data on our behalf.
- We use double opt-in. Nothing is sent until you click the link in the confirmation email.
- We send new-book announcements and a reminder before major gift holidays.
- Every email has an unsubscribe link. You can also email us. We delete your data when you unsubscribe, except what we must keep to prove that you consented.
Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time.
Your store choice
If you pick an Amazon store in the footer ("Shopping from another country?"), your browser remembers that choice in local storage on your device. It isn't a cookie, it isn't sent to us, and you can clear it in your browser settings.
Amazon links
Buy buttons take you to Amazon. What happens there is covered by Amazon's own privacy notice. We don't receive any information about what you buy.
Fonts and other requests
Fonts and images are served from this site. Your browser does not contact Google Fonts or other third parties for them.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or port your data, to object to processing based on legitimate interest, and to withdraw consent. Email hello@unofficialdictionary.com. You can also complain to a data protection authority. In Croatia that is the Agencija za zaštitu osobnih podataka (AZOP), azop.hr.
